A future-proof payment solution for electric vehicle charging?
A future-proof payment solution for electric vehicle charging?
The number of charging points for private drivers of electric vehicles is increasing rapidly. This also increases the desire to pay for charging sessions in a safe, trusted and widespread manner. Price transparency is also becoming increasingly important. People often have to take out a special subscription and thus unconsciously pay all kinds of surcharges in order to be able to charge. Purchasing a charging card is therefore relatively expensive and a collection of cards for charging is also inconvenient and polluting. Payment with an existing and increasingly digital payment card is therefore desirable!

About the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR)
Since 2024, new public charging points must be equipped with an ad hoc payment option according to the Alternative Fuels Infrastructure Regulation (AFIR). From January 2027, public charging points with a capacity of more than 50 kW must accept electronic payments using a payment card reader or contactless device. In Germany and Norway, it is already mandatory to have a payment terminal on/near a charging station. It is likely that the entire European Union will follow. In addition, payment with a payment card offers a direct and guaranteed payment that cannot be reversed.
Therefore, it will be a requirement that all end users can charge their electric vehicle on an ad hoc basis at publicly accessible charging points using a bank card.

Our Qonnect solution for EV charging
Our Qonnect solution for EV Charging makes it possible to add a payment solution to charging infrastructure with very limited effort, making it AFIR compliant immediately.

RETROFITTING POSSIBLE
For existing and new charging infrastructure.

ANY TYPE OF CHARGING STATION
For AC (≤ 50kW) or DC charging points (≥ 50kW).

PLUG & PLAY
No development or complicated certifications.

CLOUD BASED
Integrations are realized completely online or according to required standards within your industry.

AFIR COMPLIANT
Directly compliant with AFIR regarding price transparency and support of an ad-hoc payment solution.

COST EFFICIENT
One payment terminal for multiple charging stations, low transaction costs, reduced costs.

The convenience of the Q-HUB
Adding a payment terminal is made easier by the Q-Hub. This optional stainless steel kiosk contains a payment terminal and can be placed near the equipment that needs to be controlled by it. This means that you do not have to do anything yourself to physically integrate a payment terminal into your environment and you avoid potential inspections (EMC/CE/...) and hazards during maintenance of the payment terminal. A Q-Hub can be provided with the desired color scheme and stickers.

Our Q-Hub ensures that your charging stations are always controlled smoothly: One Q-Hub can control multiple charging stations and one charging station can also be controlled by multiple Q-Hubs!
Benefits of the Q-Hub

NO QUEUES
There are virtually no queues thanks to the connection between the payment and charging stations.

BACK-UP
There is a guaranteed availability of payment machines.

COST SAVING
Since you need fewer payment terminals (and contracts), you save on your costs.
Paving stone size

STEP 1
The Q-Hub can be placed almost anywhere. So choose a suitable spot yourself.

STEP 2
The size of the Q-Hub is exactly the same as one paving stone, which you can remove.

STEP 3
Place the Q-Hub where the removed paving stone was.

STEP 4
Pair the Q-Hub with the charge points and it's ready to use!
The customer journey
The customer arrives and connects the plug of the charging station to the car. The customer makes a reservation as payment at the Q-Hub and leaves the location. After the customer has returned, he/she disconnects the plug and stops the charging transaction. The exact amount charged and any other tariff components are then debited.
The charging transaction
At the start of the charging session, financial security is obtained immediately. Payment of the final amount usually takes place the next day. The charging transactions are fast, safe and smooth in a familiar way. Familiar tariffs such as a starting rate, price per kWh and the number of minutes that the charging station is in use / blocked can be maintained.

How do you connect?
No time for complicated development processes? We understand that very well. That is why we have made it as easy as possible to connect our payment terminals. You can easily integrate the payment terminals via our Plug&Play Qonnect-EV-OCPP gateway, a mutual integration via our Qonnect-EV-API or take over full control of the payment terminal via our Qonnect-Cloud-API interface. We are happy to advise you on which solution best suits your needs.
